Supporting employers

There are an estimated 1.3m people with a learning disability in England, including over 950,000 adults aged 18 or over.

Yet only 5.1% of people with a learning disability known to their local councils are in paid employment in England, according to latest figures published by the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities.

It’s the responsibility of education and business to bridge that gap and help harness this rich seam of hidden talent. We believe that this can only be achieved through the joint expertise of specialist colleges such as Hereward and dedicated regional and national employers.

Hereward College has extensive experience in supporting public and private sector organisations to employ people with learning disabilities through disability/EDI (equality, diversity and inclusion) training and via our supported internship scheme.

We work with regional and national employers in a wide range of sectors including Evtec Automotive, Holiday Inn, Premier Inn, Severn Trent Water, West Midlands Police and the University of Warwick who have reported major business benefits from diversifying their workforce.
