Work programmes
The three study pathways (Foundation, Explorer and Discovery) are at an increasing academic or vocational / technical level and are designed to assist transition into employment.
Students are prepared for employment via one of four routes:
-
Business in Action
-
Transition to Employment
-
Supported Internship
-
Supported Apprenticeship
In our Business in Action course, skills are developed through working as a team for a charity on-site at Hereward College.
Our Transition to Employment courses develop work skills through employer visits, sector-based learning and work experience.
The college also works with leading regional employers to offer Supported Internship opportunities, where students develop
employment skills working for a local employer in a range of roles with a high level of Job Coach support.
A Supported Apprenticeship enables students to develop employment skills working for a local employer as an apprentice.
Paid work outcomes
In 2024-25, 79% of students at Hereward College who had employment as an outcome progressed to paid or voluntary employment. The figure of 47% for paid employment is almost ten times the national average*.
* 5.1% of adults with a learning disability known to their local authority in England are in paid work (NHS Digital, 2021).
