Practical Learning
Hereward offers practical enrichment opportunities for all learners to promote positive mental health and wellbeing. Our dedicated areas provide accessible resources and are included across all subjects and pathways to enable every student to benefit from hands-on learning.

Forest School

A dedicated outdoor space led by trained forest school and outdoor leaders. Students develop life skills, manage risks and have the opportunity to shine within a practical environment.

Students develop employability skills, learn garden maintenance, work on community projects and develop a kitchen garden within our polytunnel and planting areas.

Preparation for work in the construction industry

Learners develop trade skills and learn more about working in the construction sector. An option on our vocational programme as well as an additional enrichment session, learners develop practical and specialist trade skills in small groups supported by expert staff.

  • Developing skills in bricklaying
  • Building maintenance (including plastering and tiling)
  • Decorating

Future career routes
Once you've completed the course you will have the skills to be able to study at Level 2 or progress through our routes to work in the sector.
We have extensive partnerships with employers and an expanding supported internship study programme.
