The government has a commitment to get 1 million more people with disabilities into work by 2027 and we believe that this can only be achieved through the joint expertise of specialist colleges such as Hereward and regional and national employers.
The Department of Education says in its guidance: “All young people should be helped to develop the skills and experience, and achieve the qualifications they need to succeed in their careers. The overwhelming majority of young people with SEN are capable of sustainable paid employment with the right preparation and support. All professionals working with them should share that presumption.”
At Hereward we need to ensure that our study programme focuses on preparing students for work and offer clear pathways to employment. A key component is to identify those skills that employers value and help our young people to develop them.
