Hereward College student Matt Jarvis has been celebrating after receiving an award for volunteering his time to The Football Association’s (FA) Football Futures programme.
The Football Futures programme is a rewards programme offering incentives to young individuals aged 12 to 24 as encouragement to get involved in football. There are many activities that are part of the scheme, including; assistant team coaching, refereeing and organising football tournaments.
Matt, 22, is a keen referee and has just received The FA award in recognition of his dedication through volunteering 36 hours to the scheme. To further his achievement, he has also added his Futsal Refereeing Level 1 qualification to his list of accolades.
Matt said: “I feel I’ve gained a lot from this experience, it has helped further develop my leadership and communication skills and on top of that it is great fun to be involved.”
Michael Thurlow, the College and Community Football Coordinator for Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire said: “Matt has worked hard on his development so far. He voluntarily referees at college on a weekly basis and has supported Birmingham County FA by refereeing at Birmingham & Coventry School Futsal Competitions. He has been fantastic and huge credit to Hereward College, well done Matt!”
Matt hopes to continue his success in the sporting industry and aspires to go to University to later become a PE teacher.
