Curriculum

Hereward College is committed to providing the best learning experience in order to enable students with diverse needs to realise their personal potential. This is achieved through individually tailored programmes that raise expectations and empower individuals to contribute to, benefit from, and influence society.

The curriculum offer includes opportunities to follow externally accredited academic and vocational programmes as well as the extended curriculum through which the development of personal and independence skills are key in preparation for adult life.

Courses

Students normally study a main programme with the option of choosing an additional programme in the same or another subject area.

Functional Skills

Students who need help with Communication, Information Technology and Numeracy are offered additional support in workshops or one-to-one sessions. These are added to your programme in a flexible way.

Levels

The college offers courses from pre entry to level 3 (A levels and A level equivalent). We also offer a level 4 (Higher national Diploma) in Media. Students working at Pre-Entry Level are able to follow individual programmes that develop their personal, communication and independence skills.

Vocational Courses

A wide range of Edexcel, OCR and City and Guilds qualifications are available for beginners and more advanced students. These include Introductory, First and National Awards, Certificates and Diplomas and NVQs. These courses help you to progress to further study or to the world of work. Level 3 courses also allow you to progress to university.

GCSEs, AS and A Levels

These courses are offered in partnership with other schools and colleges in the city.

Enrichment Modules

Our Enrichment Programme gives you the chance to broaden your experience by taking part in short programmes in other curriculum areas. This gives you the opportunity to learn important skills. We offer a very wide range of sporting, enterprise arts drama and music activities that are great fun.
