Champion Volunteer Award for Hereward Student

Congratulations to student Callum Klapatyj who has won an award as Champion Volunteer 2018 for his contribution to local community radio station Hillz FM.

Callum started doing work experience at Hillz FM as part of his college course and then pursued his interest in radio as a volunteer presenter.  He now presents his own football show, which he prerecords and airs on a Friday evening.

During the summer, Callum studied a six-week course organised by Hillz FM to gain the skills in radio presenting and has also been a very active member of local community events in Hillfields.

Callum is now working at Whitefriars Housing as part of Hereward’s supported internship scheme and has been able to transfer the skills and confidence developed at HillzFM into his role there.  He said:

“Hillz FM is a fantastic starting point for anybody who is interested in radio. I’m delighted at winning this award and very proud to receive recognition of what I’ve achieved. I’ve dedicated my award to Hereward College to show my appreciation of the support the College has given to me. Hillz FM is a brilliant place to work and special thanks to presenters Leroy, Nadia and the producers for their continued support.”
